As Co-Founder and Lead Mural Artist of ArteLatAm, Torres Machado has led the creative vision and execution of numerous permanent mural projects throughout New York, collaborating with schools, community organizations, artists, and public partners. His work transforms shared spaces into meaningful visual environments that celebrate identity, heritage, diversity, education, and belonging. His leadership through ArteLatAm includes the development and execution of community-based public art initiatives and collaborations with artists, schools, organizations, and community stakeholders.
Community engagement is an integral part of his public art practice. Through site-responsive design, visual storytelling, and collaborative art-making, Torres Machado creates work that responds to the character of each location while establishing meaningful connections between artwork and community.
His public art experience includes numerous permanent murals throughout New York City, creative placemaking initiatives, NYC Department of Education projects, and community-engaged mural programs. His work has received recognition including the Mural Beautification Award in Huntington, the SUN Arts Award, New York Regional Winner of the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series, and the First International Biennial of Contemporary Art in Ecuador. He has also received support through programs including City Artist Corps, ArtBridge, NYC Department of Education Summer Rising, Foundation for Contemporary Arts, and New York Foundation for the Arts.
Now based on Long Island, Torres Machado continues to expand his public art practice with a particular interest in creating permanent, site-specific works that contribute to community identity, strengthen a sense of place, and transform everyday public spaces into memorable cultural landmarks.
